I originally created the first coral design in Okinawa with a traditional Japanese printing method called 'Sango Some'.

Protect what you Love

While snorkeling in Okinawa (Japan) and marveling at the beautiful sea creatures and corals, I noticed that a lot of the corals lost their color and were faded to a greyish-white. So - curious as I am - I researched what the reason for that is. This phenomenon is called "coral bleeching" and it happens when the sea temperature rises over a certain level as well as when the water is polluted with excessive fertilizers from agriculture. Both happened frequently over the past few decades, which leads to the corals' death. It is also not specific to Japan, but a worldwide problem. The coral reefs serve as home to an incredible number of fish and other sea animals.

Fortunately, research has shown that some coral species can recover from these bleeching events. The reasons however, why some corals have the capacity to recover is still under research.

With this project I want to support the protection of coral reefs. So from every purchase that was made, I will donate 5% of the profit to coral research and preservation.
